How to Configure a Website Redirect in cPanel

This guide provides the simple steps necessary to establish a permanent (301) or temporary (302) URL redirect. This feature ensures traffic automatically forwards from one web address to another.

Part 1: Accessing the Redirects Tool

  1. Start by **logging in to your cPanel account** using your credentials.
  2. Once inside the main cPanel dashboard, locate the **Domains** section and click on the **Redirects** link.

After clicking, the Redirects page will load, allowing you to define your forwarding rules.

Part 2: Defining the Redirection Path

  1. On the Redirects creation form, you must specify two addresses:
    1. Identify the **source URL** (the old or current address visitors are coming from).
    2. Identify the **destination URL** (the new address where visitors will be sent).
Ensure you also select the appropriate redirect type, typically **Permanent (301)** for search engine optimization purposes.

You can choose to redirect an entire domain or just a specific page path within a domain.

Part 3: Finalizing the Rule

  1. Once all fields are accurately filled, click on the **Add** button located at the bottom of the form to save and activate your new redirect rule immediately.
The redirect is now live and will automatically forward traffic. You should test the source URL to confirm it resolves correctly to the destination.
