How to Disassociate a User from a MySQL Database in cPanel

This procedure details how to revoke a MySQL user's permissions for a specific database. Note that this process removes the user's access to the database but does not delete the user account itself.

Step 1: Accessing the MySQL Databases Tool

  1. Log in to your cPanel control panel.
  2. In the cPanel main interface, locate the Databases category and click on the MySQL Databases link.

Step 2: Identifying the User to Remove

  1. Scroll down the MySQL Databases page to the section labeled Current Databases. Find the specific database from which you want to remove permissions.
  2. Look across the row for that database to the column labeled Users. This lists all user accounts currently associated with that database.
  3. Click on the removal link (often represented by an 'x' or 'Remove' text) located next to the username you wish to disconnect from the database.

Step 3: Confirming the Removal

  1. On the subsequent confirmation screen, click the Delete User from Database button to finalize the action and permanently revoke that user's privileges for the selected database.
The user has now been successfully removed from the database and no longer has access to its contents.
